Sasha Ono
Training Ensemble Teaching Artist (Cello)
Sasha Ono is a cellist and concert curator based in New York City where she performs and records music of various genres. Ono was featured on the Grammy Award winning pieces “Metaknights Revenge” by the 8 Bit Big Band and “Refuge” by Geoffrey Keezer. Recent performances include appearances with Miley Cyrus, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman, Kristin Chenoweth, NPR Tiny Desk, 8-Bit Big Band, Lawrence, Mozart in the Jungle, and Il Divo. Ono has been featured as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician at venues including Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, National Sawdust, David Geffen Hall, and Madison Square Garden. International performances include tours of Northern Japan to raise awareness and funds for areas still heavily impacted by the tsunami and earthquakes.
As an advocate for classical music reflecting the experiences of wider communities, Ono founded Lotus Chamber Music Collective whose mission is to perform and commission compositions by women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ composers.
As an educator, Ono is a teaching artist for the New Jersey Symphony Youth Orchestra. During her tenure teaching and conducting elementary and high school orchestras, Ono developed a unique strings curriculum focused on developing perseverance, building effective practice techniques, and music literacy through ear training and improvisation.
