SCORES: NEW ORCHESTRAL WORKS

JoAnn Falletta conducts the NJSO premieres of dynamic works by the composers of the NJSO Edward T. Cone Composition Institute, a multi-faceted program that promotes new music and emerging composers. The Institute composers will briefly share the inspiration behind their pieces in an evening that will show the vibrant future of orchestral music.

• SAAD HADDAD Takht
  A beautifully unconventional depiction of a traditional Middle Eastern ensemble through the lens of a symphony orchestra.

• NOAH KAPLAN Forest Through Forest
  An enigmatic journey through new realms of tonality.

• SAM LIPMAN Song of the Bhagavan
  An orchestral interpretation of the ancient dialectic Bhagavad Gita, Song seeks the connection between our fundamentally opposed rational and animalistic natures.

• ALYSSA WEINBERG Tereza Slumbers
  Inspired by Kundera’s Unbearable Lightness of Being. Travels through juxtaposing sound-worlds: the light and ethereal in conversation with the dark, dense and terrifying.

• STEVEN MACKEY Four Iconoclastic Episodes
  A tuneful and virtuosic double concerto for electric guitar, violin and string orchestra.
