Nimbus Dance with the Music of Nina Simone & Nancy Wilson
Featuring the NJSO Chamber Players
About the Program
The NJSO Chamber Players take the stage in collaboration with the Nimbus Dance Company and NJPAC. Part one of this three-part series explores the vibrant and powerful fusion of live music and dance on the Victoria Theater stage. The performance features a world premiere written for the NJSO ensemble, as well as choreography set to the music of jazz legends Nina Simone and Nancy Wilson.
Concert program:
- Falling Sky: World premiere! Artistic Director Samuel Pott’s new work includes a score commissioned by composer and drummer Qasim Naqvi (Dawn of Midi) and performed onstage by NJSO musicians in a new partnership.
- Patch of Turf: Pott’s seminal 2015 collaboration with Naqvi—and a tour de force for four virtuosic female dancers—is heightened by the addition of NJSO musicians.
- The After Party: A spirited homage to jazz legends Nina Simone and Nancy Wilson by noted Philadelphia-based choreographer Dawn Marie Bazemore.
- Pott’s The Glare From These Horizons: Incorporates recordings by jazz artists Russell Malone and Skalpel and piano compositions by Kim D. Sherman.
