Symphony Center in Jersey City
“The New Jersey Symphony has long lacked a permanent home, performing in a variety of spaces across the state. But come 2026, that will change: The orchestra is getting a gleaming 550-seat theater in downtown Jersey City, the ensemble and the city announced on Wednesday.” —Javier C. Hernández, The New York Times
In a press event in Jersey City on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the New Jersey Symphony announced that it will be expanding into Jersey City in a big way—with a new performing arts venue that will host New Jersey Symphony chamber music events and diversified programming, including non-classical events. The new Symphony Center will also become a permanent home base for the Symphony, with offices and space for education programs, expanding on the pioneering classical music education programs in Newark and throughout the State.
Large orchestral works and classical subscription series concerts will continue in the Symphony’s five halls; NJPAC in Newark, State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick, Count Basie Center for the Arts, Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown and Richardson Auditorium in Princeton. Education programs in Newark and community events throughout the state will continue as well.
The new Symphony Center will welcome patrons in Jersey City and beyond beginning in Spring 2026, after construction is completed.
More details are available in the press release.
Your New Jersey Symphony looks forward to sharing more news in the coming months and year on this exciting new project!
