On October 11, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra held its Opening Night Celebration and honored an outstanding community member—Curtland E. Fields, President & CEO of the Turrell Fund and NJSO Trustee. 

More than 300 guests enjoyed the celebration, which began with a pre-concert cocktail party in NJPAC’s extraordinary Prudential Hall lobby and featured delightful jazz music from Newark Arts High School students.

Concertgoers were treated to an incredible season-opening performance of Holst’s The Planets, paired with jaw-dropping NASA astronomical visuals in HD, along with symphonic classics conducted by Music Director Xian Zhang. In addition, Newark Voices returned to the stage to bring an ethereal element to The Planets. An outstanding dinner followed the performance under the celestial lights of the room’s décor.

For more than 25 years, the Turrell Fund has generously supported the NJSO’s education and community engagement programs in the greater Newark area. These programs afford students an appreciation for the arts and the benefits of a quality music education, and they enliven our community with vibrant cultural opportunities.

The NJSO would like to thank all of those who attended and supported the Opening Night Celebration. Their contributions have been essential to the success of this fine performing arts organization, and we are delighted to have raised a significant amount from the event, which contributes to the NJSO community and education programs throughout New Jersey.
