Lunar New Year Composition Competition

Call for Scores!

The New Jersey Symphony is calling on New Jersey-based composers of all backgrounds, ages and ability levels to submit their own solo piano arrangement of the Korean folk song “Arirang,” for a chance to be performed by pianist Min Kwon on the Symphony’s Lunar New Year Celebration on January 25, 2025.

The winner will have their arrangement performed on the Lunar New Year Celebration concert by Ms. Kwon, and will have at least one workshop opportunity with Ms. Kwon leading up to the performance. The winner will also receive four free tickets to the Lunar New Year Celebration performance on January 25, 2025, plus two additional tickets to a New Jersey Symphony classical subscription concert of their choice.

The arrangement should be a brilliant, celebratory, virtuosic and colorful addition to our annual Lunar New Year Celebration, written for advanced solo piano. The arrangement should be under four (4) minutes in duration, and the measures must be numbered in the score at the beginning of each line.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, November 1 at 11:59 pm. The winner will be announced by the end of November.
