Bugs Bunny at the Symphony II is coming to town!

Oct 21, 2014

Everyone’s favorite “Wascally Wabbit,” Bugs Bunny, is coming to New Jersey this January for Bugs Bunny at the Symphony II. Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Porky Pig, Tweety, Sylvester, Pepe Le Pew, Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang will be up on the big screen in their greatest hits, with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra performing the exhilarating original cartoon scores live, conducted by George Daugherty.

For many generations, Looney Tunes’ musically inspired scores were often a child’s first introduction to classical music. What kid in the last 70+ years didn’t spend his or her Saturday mornings watching Looney Tunes while crunching on cereal? Did you know that so much of that experience was the music? Thanks to legendary Warner Bros. composers Carl Stalling and Milt Franklyn, with a little help from some classical masters including Wagner, Rossini, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Smetana and von Suppe, kids all over America learned that great animation also meant great music!

Led by Daugherty, the NJSO will perform these original animation scores live, as the classic cartoons are projected on a huge screen, and the iconic voices and hilarious sound effects fill the concert hall. It’s Looney Tunes as you’ve never experienced them before, and the experience can’t be replicated inside your living room.

Bugs Bunny at the Symphony II has delighted audiences around the world, and features an evening of complete Looney Tunes that consistently are named “the funniest cartoons in history,”  including What's Opera, Doc?, The Rabbit of Seville, Duck Amuck, Robin Hood Daffy, Rhapsody Rabbit, Baton Bunny, Long-Haired Hare, A Scent of The Matterhorn, Zoom and Bored, Show Biz Bugs, and many others. In addition to these classic cartoons, the concert will also feature new Warner Bros. 3D theatrical shorts I Tawt I Taw A Puddy Tat and Coyote Falls.

Bugs Bunny at the Symphony II (and its concert predecessors Bugs Bunny on Broadway and Bugs Bunny at the Symphony I) have played to rave reviews and over 2.5 million people worldwide for the past 25 years. Created by Daugherty and David Ka Lik Wong, these NJSO performances are the production’s first major return to the New Jersey/New York area since the original concert’s history-making, sold-out, extended Broadway run at The Gershwin Theatre in 1990.

The concert is performed in two venues—NJPAC in Newark and State Theatre in New Brunswick. With performances just after the holidays (Jan 3 & 4), Bugs Bunny at the Symphony II is the perfect family-friendly event to kick off the new year—and it’s a unique present for the Looney Tunes fan who has everything!

Join the NJSO and fellow Looney Tunes fans this January to celebrate this fantastic legacy of orchestral music in cartoons—and one unforgettable “Wascally Wabbit.”

The January 4 performance is presented in collaboration with the State Theatre.
