Clarinet duo wins Youth Orchestras’ Henry Lewis Concerto Competition
Clarinetists Camillo Lin and Alex Wu have won the 2015–16 NJSO Youth Orchestras’ Henry Lewis Concerto Competition. They performed Felix Mendelssohn’s Concert Piece No. 2 in D minor, Op. 114; they will be the featured soloists with the Academy Orchestra in the NJSO Youth Orchestras’ Winter Concert in January.
Camillo and Alex both hail from Livingston and attend Livingston High School; 15-year-old Camillo is a sophomore and 14-year-old Alex is a freshman. They are both students of NJSO clarinetist Andy Lamy.
The competition adjudicators awarded Honorable Mention to 13-year-old violinist Kevin Wallace from Montclair.
The competition is named for former NJSO Music Director Henry Lewis in honor of his posthumous 2015 induction into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. This naming also helps the NJSO mark the 25th anniversary season of the NJSO Youth Orchestras. Held annually, the Concerto Competition celebrates discipline, dedication and accomplishment by providing members of the NJSO Academy Orchestra with the opportunity to perform as soloists with the ensemble.
