Eric Jacobsen and the New Jersey Symphony earn applause for rich spring program
Apr 3, 2023
Eric Jacobsen delivered an impressive debut performance with the New Jersey Symphony as he joined Tiffany Townsend, Reginald Smith Jr., the Montclair State University Chorale and the orchestra to conduct Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, along with works from George Walker and Maurice Ravel. Their spring program earned applause from NJ Advance Media, which noted the uniqueness in how they performed Fauré’s soul-touching piece.
... Jacobsen and the New Jersey players focused on the work’s more transcendent rather than tragic elements. Most impressive was the third movement “Sanctus,” where the voices, harp and strings created a celestial sound, setting the stage for some epic horn blasts.
