Flutist wins Henry Lewis Concerto Competition

Feb 25, 2020

HannahLee2020.jpgCongratulations to flutist Hannah Lee, winner of the NJSO Youth Orchestras’ Henry Lewis Concerto Competition! Hannah will perform Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major as the featured soloist at the Youth Orchestras' concert on Apr 26.

Violinist Timothy Shi garnered honorable mention for a fine performance of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 in D major.

Judged by NJSO musicians, the competition is named for former NJSO Music Director Henry Lewis, who broke racial barriers in the music world as the first African American music director of a major American orchestra—the NJSO (1968–76).

The NJSO Youth Orchestras present their spring concert on April 26 at 4 pm at Science Park High School in Newark. All tickets are $5 and are available for purchase by phone at 1.800.ALLEGRO (255.3476).
