Gregory D. McDaniel talks about conducting the Gospel Holiday family concert with NJArts.net
The New Jersey Symphony will conduct its annual holiday family concert, A Gospel Holiday, on Saturday, December 14 at Science Park High School in Newark, and it will be conducted this year by the Symphony’s Colton Conducting Fellow Gregory D. McDaniel. He spoke to Courtney Smith of NJArts.net to discuss the upcoming concert and some of the pieces that will be performed.
I remember always perking to attention when the choir would sing in church; those memories are very much etched into my mind. So when Erin (Erin Lunsford Norton, New Jersey Symphony’s vice president of artistic planning) asked me if I’d be interested in doing a gospel Christmas concert, I said, ‘Give me an orchestra, give me a choir, give me the pieces — I’ll do it!’
