Ha Young Jung discusses her musical journey ahead of New Jersey Symphony Stars performances
With a major solo performance of Bottesini’s Gran Duo Concertante ahead in New Jersey Symphony Stars, New Jersey Symphony Principal Double Bass Ha Young Jung spoke to The Jersey Journal to discuss her journey into the classical music world and how she found her love for the double bass.
It’s always been a part of me and I think that’s because of the amount of music that was always around me when I was growing up. The love and passion that my parents had for it kind of transferred itself to me. I remember when I was very little, I would copy musical notes out of books of sheet music. Just drawing soprano clefs and bass clefs because I thought it looked beautiful ... The range of the instrument itself is really fantastic. What first attracted me to the double bass was how the sound of it really comes close to our own human voices, which I find very moving when played right.
