Hear and see The Rite of Spring
The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Morris Arts welcome you to:
-
Attend Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring performed live by the NJSO.
-
Experience the “Rites of Spring” juried exhibition at the Gallery at 14 Maple.
On Saturday, June 8, at 3 pm, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra presents a concert at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown featuring The Rite of Spring, a work that sparked a riot at its premiere with its pulse-pounding rhythms and musical innovation.
Immediately following the concert, all patrons are invited to experience the piece again—visually—at “Rites of Spring,” a juried exhibition at the Gallery at 14 Maple, located at 14 Maple Avenue in Morristown—approximately four blocks from the concert hall. This exhibit presents 37 artworks by 36 artists challenging conventional approaches to media, pushing the limits of traditional uses and processes and addressing themes of transformation, ritual and rebirth to herald the coming of spring. The exhibit is guest curated by Jeanne Brasile, Director of the Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University.
Participating artists include Barry Altman (East Windsor), David Axelrod (Chatham), Rob Barth (Lafayette), Richard Bedkowski (Morristown), Ron Brown (South Orange), Bernadette Calnon-Buote (Moorestown), Lisa Conrad (Newark), Lauren Curtis (Somerset), Dominique Duroseau (Irvington), Kate Eggleston (Hillsborough), Amy Evans (Califon), Sara Fattori (Morristown), Harriet Finck (East Orange), Andrea Geller (Paramus), Freya Gervasi (Denville), Eva Han, Alice Harrison (Morristown), Susanna Kopchains (Far Hills), Ahni Kruger (Pottersville), Jamie Levine (Short Hills), Beatrice M.
