New Jersey Symphony discuss their collaboration with Kulture Kool at BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham with Mosaic
The New Jersey Symphony and Kulture Kool are teaming up with BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville, the largest Hindu temple in the United States, to deliver a free chamber performance dedicated to the best of the music of India on August 2. New Jersey Symphony Vice President of Artistic Planning Erin Lunsford Norton discussed the collaboration with Vashti Harris of Mosaic while explaining some of the pieces that will be featured in the program.
This effort started with a collaboration with Kulture Kool Cultural Center, and they’ve been a wonderful partner to us ever since — and are featured in this program at BAPS temple ... Many of [the songs] are works by Indian composers who were raised in both the Indian and Western classical traditions and have brought the two sides of their training together to create music for string quartet that embodies the traditions of Indian classical music. While still being playable for a Western-trained ensemble.
