Randall Goosby and the New Jersey Symphony receive standing ovation for performance of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto
Young virtuoso Randall Goosby joined Music Director Xian Zhang and the New Jersey Symphony to deliver a resounding rendition of Tchaikovsky’s lone Violin Concerto in a performance that also included the world premiere of Chen Yi’s Landscape Impression. Goosby and the Symphony would receive a huge round of applause for their performance of the concerto, which was reviewed by NJ Advance Media.
Goosby played this difficult concerto as if he were simply sorting through his mail. His tone, like his phrasing, was so straight-forward, so matter of fact ... And when the music rushed to the first big crescendo of the first movement allegro moderato, Zhang and the orchestra’s swelling sounds felt even more powerful due to Goosby’s moderation. At the end of the movement, the NJPAC crowd burst into applause, and many leapt to their feet.
