NEWARK, NJ—Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho—winner of the 2015 International Chopin Piano Competition—performs Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto in his New Jersey Symphony Orchestra debut, October 11–14 in Englewood, Newark and Morristown. The program also features Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony and the NJSO premiere of Ligeti’s Romanian Concerto.

Performances take place on October 11 at 7:30 pm at bergenPAC in Englewood, October 13 at 8 pm at NJPAC in Newark and October 14 at 3 pm at Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown.

Cho says: “Chopin is one of my favorite composers. His music is so poetic, romantic and colorful. The Second Piano Concerto is [so] passionate and delicate, especially in the second movement. I’m looking forward to playing it in New Jersey.”

The pianist has garnered critical acclaim. The Washington Post writes: “Cho appears to have the musical potential to take his place alongside the greats of the past. He has earned praise, not only for his bulletproof technique, but also for his artistic voice: his sense of drama, his natural nobility and his youthfully searching interpretations.”

Dutch conductor Otto Tausk, the incoming music director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, makes his NJSO debut at the podium.

NJSO Accent events include Classical Conversations beginning one hour before the performances on October 13 and 14.
