"Lehninger’s unusual aptitude quickly emerged. By the time he was 5 or 6, he was playing piano and violin. Before he was 14, he knew he wanted to become a conductor. His father was concertmaster of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, and watching music director Eleazar de Carvalho, Lehninger became inspired."

MUSICIAN INSIGHT
David Fein, Principal Percussion
Having performed Mendelssohn’s “Italian” Symphony since my youth, it was indeed a pleasure to revisit the work with the NJSO—especially with the spirit the weekend’s conductor [guest conductor Marcelo Lehninger], which made for a very reflective series of performances for me. I had first played the symphony at the High School of Music and Art in New York—and interestingly enough, one of the musicians on stage went to high school with me and performed in that same concert.
