Star-Ledger: Gil Shaham concerts in week’s ‘Top 5’
Gil Shaham returns to NJSO stages for performances of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto this week in a program that grabs the top spot in The Star-Ledger’s “Top 5 N.J. shows this week”:
Gil Shaham with the NJSO — Violinist Gil Shaham returns to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra this week to perform Mendelssohn’s tuneful Violin Concerto under the baton of music director Jacques Lacombe. The program also includes Franck’s Symphony in D minor and Rossini’s “William Tell” overture. Concerts take place Thursday in Newark, Saturday in Red Bank and Sunday in New Brunswick.
The Star-Ledger hailed Shaham’s “inspired” last appearance with Music Director Jacques Lacombe and the NJSO in April 2012, saying soloist and orchestra “trancended expectations” in “an inspired program” and praising Shaham as a violinist “technically superb and full of heart; charismatic, but immersed in collaboration rather than showmanship.”
