Star-Ledger: NJSO concerts in week’s ‘Top 5’
The Star-Ledger names this weekend's NJSO concerts among the week's top five shows:
NJSO plays Dvorak — Guest conductor Christoph König leads the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in performances of Dvorak's Symphony No. 5 and "Romance" this weekend on a program that also includes violinist Stefan Jackiw playing Ravel's "Tzigane." Concerts take place Friday and Sunday at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark and Saturday at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank. Tickets are $20-$87, njsymphony.org
Broadway World also previews the concerts, writing:
The program's featured artists have garnered critical praise. König "exuded confidence and expertise as he led the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra," The Star-Ledger wrote, praising the "plush, expansive sound" the conductor drew from the Orchestra in his 2012 appearance.
The Boston Globe writes that Jackiw "naturally has all the requisite virtuosity and technical firepower one would expect from a young soloist these days, but [he places] technique at the service of a notably refined sense of artistry."
