Star Trek’s Marina Sirtis previews Sci-Fi Spectacular
The Asbury Park Press’ “Fan Theory” podcast chats with Marina Sirtis, the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” star who hosts the NJSO’s Sci-Fi Spectacular: Music from Star Wars, Star Trek & Beyond January 6 at NJPAC in Newark and January 7 at State Theatre New Jersey:
“People don’t realize these are the preeminent composers of our time,” Sirtis said. “You know, these are our Handels and Beethovens and Bachs, these people who write music for movies which is spectacularly good (and) will last forever.
“Like the old classics, this music will last when we’re all gone and below the grass, and I think people forget that we are so blessed, especially my genre, in sci-fi, to have had some of the most eminent composers wanting to write for us. I mean, it just makes you feel good about what you’re doing, that it’s valued in such a way by these amazing composers.”

The Home News Tribune writes:
“This is my second time appearing with a symphony orchestra, and I am thrilled to be a part of such an exciting evening of music from sci-fi,” said Sirtis, who next can be seen in the comedy series “Internity” and the upcoming “5th Passenger” feature film. “One forgets, sometimes, how many of music‘s most lauded composers gave of their talent to sci-fi movies and TV shows.”

“I was thrilled to be invited to conduct the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra for the very first time and to be asked to be a part of this engaging and exciting musical program,” [conductor Bob Bernhardt] said.
