The New Jersey Symphony collaborated with Steven Mackey to perform the world premiere of his new commission, RIOT, alongside Alicia Olatuja and the Princeton University Glee Club in a performance that also included Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 and Overture to Don Giovanni and Bruckner’s Te Deum. Reviewing the Princeton performance, NJ Advance Media said they had unleash a ‘RIOT’ in their most prominent world premiere this season.
The New Jersey Symphony put the old adage ‘music is poetry in motion’ to the test this past weekend, delivering their most prominent world premiere of this centennial season. Tapping two longtime Princeton University professors to collaborate on a new composition, the orchestra unveiled this new piece, titled ‘RIOT,’ on Friday at Princeton’s Richardson Auditorium.
