Summer concerts start tonight!
The NJSO kicks off its slate of summer concerts tonight with a free performance at Pier A Park in Hoboken. Relax with friends and family and enjoy an evening under the stars as the Orchestra performs a perfect mix of light classical and popular favorites.
The program looks ahead to the classical favorites of the NJSO’s 2014–15 season and honors the state’s rich cultural past as part of the NJ350 celebration. Enjoy selections including Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” Symphony and Mozart’s Così fan tutte Overture, then toast the Garden State’s 350th anniversary with a salute to Frank Sinatra, a medley of Jersey Boys classics, Count Basie’s “One O’Clock Jump” and patriotic favorites.
Nj.com writes:
The series will be conducted by Gemma New, who has conducted several orchestras from around the world. New is NJSO's associate conductor and works with the Greater Newark Youth Orchestra, one of NJSO's affiliates, the announcement said. New is also the director of the Lunar Ensemble, from where she has recorded albums and premiered 26 original works.
