#FlashbackFriday: watch NJSO Academy ensembles perform
On #FlashbackFriday, watch video highlights from NJSO Academy ensembles, including the NJSO Youth Orchestras and NJSO CHAMPS!
NJSO Youth Orchestras
The four-ensemble NJSO Youth Orchestras kicked off the 2016–17 season last Saturday, but listening to the Academy Orchestra play through “Jupiter” from Holst’s The Planets, you wouldn't know it was their first rehearsal:
Even before Youth Orchestras rehearsals started, musicians from the Academy Orchestra performed with the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura—featured on “60 Minutes” and in the documentary Landfill Harmonic for playing instruments made of recycled garbage in Paraguay—and members of the InterSchool Orchestras of New York and New Jersey Youth Symphony in a special Unity Youth Symphony concert at Trinity Wall Street in New York on September 12.

NJSO CHAMPS
NJSO CHAMPS (Character, Achievement and Music Project), the Orchestra’s El Sistema-inspired music instruction program at University Heights Charter School in Newark, began rehearsing last week.
Watch highlights from the 2015–16 school year and hear from educators about the program’s impact:
NJSO CHAMPS is a founding member of the El Sistema New Jersey Alliance, which unites El Sistema-inspired programs across the state—including NJSO CHAMPS, the Paterson Music Project, Sister Cities Girlchoir (Camden and Philadelphia), Sonic Explorations (Orange), Trenton Music Makers and Union City Music Project—and provides students with special performing and social opportunities.
