Xian Zhang and Tom Borrow put on a masterful performance with the New Jersey Symphony
Music Director Xian Zhang led the New Jersey Symphony were joined by pianist Tom Borrow for three masterful performances of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 in a concert weekend that also highlighted Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony. James C. Taylor of NJ Advance Media reviewed the performance at NJPAC.
... Zhang and the orchestra played with upbeat tempos, rich textures and a warm sound. This proved an interesting contrast to the cool, clean, almost modern sound of the young soloist, 23-year-old Tom Borrow. Born in Israel, Borrow’s first New Jersey performance was a distinctive one. Borrow has a particularly even touch at the keyboard, which combined with straight-forward phrasing made his Mozart sound almost minimalist — Borrow’s crisp arpeggios made you want to hear him play Philip Glass’ etudes.

Ralph Malachowski of PhillyGayCalendar would give his review of the performance in Princeton.
Conductor Xian Zhang inspired a remarkable performance from her orchestra which was totally consonant with Mr. Borrow’s sensitive and powerful performance. Audience acclaim was loud and lengthy, as he was recalled to the stage several times, even gifting the audience with an encore.
